Topic: Sibling Rivalry

Sibling rivalry is part of life, but when is it too much? Parents are often exhausted refereeing when siblings are constantly teasing each other, fighting over possessions or don’t know how to appropriately play together. This 2-day class focuses on strategies to help siblings problem solve and gain attention the right way using Positive Behavior Support Strategies. Participants will practice learned strategies together and at home with their children, and will share videos and discuss real-life situations.
This class focuses on supporting appropriate sibling interaction, not managing maladaptive behavior once it has occurred.  This class is intended for parents whose children do not play appropriately together, tease/bully each other, or avoid each other altogether. ​
Topic: Managing Problem Behaviors

Cost: $200 per family (2 people max)

When children engage in problem behaviors, it can interfere with their learning and interacting with family and friends. For parents, managing these behaviors can be confusing and often feel futile, but after focusing on effective ABA-based techniques and getting direct feedback from a BCBA, you will walk away feeling confident in the strategies you've learned!
During this 3-part interactive training, parents will be trained on strategies that they will be able to use at home. Participants will practice learned strategies together and at home with their children, and will share videos and discuss real-life situations.
This class focuses on managing maladaptive behaviors after it has occurred.  This class is intended for parent whose children engage in high rates of problem behaviors such as tantrums, screaming, throwing, aggression, or bargaining. 
Topic: Building Motivation
Date: 5/24/23 & 5/31/23

Cost: $120 per family (2 people max)​
​ Do you feel that rewarding your child for doing what they are asked to do is like bribery? Or have you tried using reward systems in the past BUT they ONLY worked for a little while?  In this 2-day behavior management class, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will show you how to support your child to engage in appropriate behaviors instead of bribing them to behave a certain way. We will demonstrate various Positive Behavior Support Strategies you can use at home to help you increase your child’s motivation, troubleshoot why strategies have not worked in the past and be given direct feedback on how well you utilize the strategies at home through videos you will provide us.  
This class is intended for parents whose children protest, negotiate, ignore instructions, or provide excuses when given a direction.
Specific diagnosis not required. 
Topic: Phobias and Fixations
Date: 6/21/2023 & 6/28/2023
Time: 5:00p.m.
Cost: $120 per family (2 people max)
  Individual fears or obsessions can cause a family to limit what they can and cannot do within their own home or out in the community. For an individual with phobias or fixations, it limits their ability to fully engage in social interactions inadvertently causing family dynamics to change and accommodate those individuals. This 2-day behavior management class focuses on strategies to help redirect to more appropriate behaviors and increase tolerance to unpleasant situations.
This class focuses on supporting independence, not managing maladaptive behavior once it has occurred.  This class is intended for parents whose children have phobias or fixations such as intense interests, sensitivity to loud noise, or fear of public bathrooms.

Does it feel like you are always verbally or physically prompting your child through basic tasks and daily routines?  If you need some tips and tricks to help your child learn new skills or gain more independence, this 2-part interactive class is for you.  You’ll learn easy-to-implement strategies to build any skill - from completing homework to more complex, time-consuming activities like cooking meals. Strategies will be demonstrated and practiced in class before we ask you to implement them in your home. During the second session, the group will discuss specific real-life situations and review video examples from each participant. 
Topic: Increasing Compliance

 When even the simplest requests are met with verbal or physical refusal, parents may choose to avoid giving demands or presenting their children with situations that may trigger noncompliance.  This can result in disruption of not only the family's routine, but also their dynamic. Gaining, or re-gaining compliance, from your child can help rebuild your relationship with them, and may affect other areas of their life and yours. This 2-day behavior management class focuses on strategies to help regain compliance and increase your child's independence. 
This class focuses on supporting independence, not managing maladaptive behavior once it has occurred.  It is intended for parents whose children ignore requests or verbally or physically resist demands. Specific diagnosis not required​
Topic: Transitions - Oh my!

Cost: $120 per family (2 people max)
Are transitions a trigger for problem behavior? If asking your child to stop and do something else makes the difference between it being a good day or a bad day, then your child may be struggling with transitions. This 2-part interactive class focuses on strategies that help manage transitions using Positive Behavior Support Strategies. Strategies will be demonstrated and practiced in class before we ask you to implement them in your home. During the second session, the group will come together to discuss specific real-life situations and review video examples from each participant.
This class focuses on supporting independence, not managing maladaptive behavior once it has occurred.  It is intended for parents whose children struggle with moving from a preferred activity, and children who are making bigger transitions such as changing schools or graduating. Specific diagnosis not required. 
Topic: How to Make & Implement Easy-to-use Token Economy Systems

Do you need help creating a token board? Do you need help with how to use them? Then this class is for you! Help increase your child’s compliance and their ability to wait for something that they earn. In this how-to class you will learn what a token board is and how to correctly use them with your child. You will need to bring the following to make a token board: paper, pictures of preferred items such as a TV show, glue, and scissors. 
Topic: How to Make & Implement Visual Schedules that Work!

Time: 6:00-7:00p.m.

Cost: $80 per family (2 people max)
Do you need help creating a visual schedule? Do you need help with how to use them? Then this class is for you! Help create consistency and expectations by using a visual schedule with your child. Visual schedules can help increase compliance and may reduce anxiety in your child. In this class you will learn what a visual schedule is and how to correctly use them with your child. You will need to bring the following to make a visual schedule: paper, pictures, glue, and scissors. 
Topic: Fun Ideas to Increase Socialization

Does your child need some extra help with socialization? Would you like to know different ways you can help them? Then this class is for you! In this how-to class, we will discuss how to use games and everyday items to increase your child’s communication and socialization. You will need to bring the following to make one of the games: a jar, marker, and popsicle sticks.

    I consent to participate in the above named program designed to enhance my skills personal competency in children using strategies from Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I understand that the information gathered in sessions will be held confident from sources outside the office, unless I grant written or verbal consent for exchange of information between professional or interested parties regarding the care of my myself and family. I understand that the exceptions to confidentiality include suspected child abuse, a threat to harm oneself, or a threat to harm another person. Since Melmed Center providers work as a team, information is shared with team members on a as needed basis, for the benefit of the child.
    During the session, I will participate in activities designed to improve my knowledge of the foundation of ABA. The facilitator encourages us to discuss information that we are comfortable sharing with the group as a time of collaboration and troubleshooting. I understand that sharing personal information is not a requirement of the group and that it is on a voluntary basis.
    Since my space in the group is reserved, I understand that I pay for the series of sessions whether or not I am able to attend due to illness, vacations, etc. Individual parent meetings are available for an additional cost if required.
    I understand that I am responsible for all fees related to my sessions. Payment, in full, is due at the time of registrations. Melmed Center is happy to provide a statement at no charge of the group meeting for my records.
    ​As participants you will be sharing personal information and stories. Cameras are required to be on during class so we can monitor who is present, to protect everyone’s privacy. Thank you for your understanding.
