Julie Weston, PhD

Julie Weston is a licensed child clinical psychologist who has been with the Melmed Center since 2007.  She obtained her doctorate degree in Child Clinical Psychology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2006.  Dr. Weston completed her internship and fellowship training at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.  While originally from Buffalo, New York, Dr. Weston spent time in both Southern Illinois/Carbondale and Little Rock, Arkansas pursuing her education prior to settling and raising her family in the Phoenix area. 
 
Dr. Weston specializes in the assessment of children.  She especially enjoys working with toddlers and preschoolers, as well as young, school-age children.  Her practice focuses primarily on comprehensive diagnostic assessments of neurodevelopmental disorders, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Intellectual Disability.  Dr. Weston is trained in both the use of the ADOS-2 for in-person evaluations, as well as NODA (Naturalistic Observation Diagnostic Assessment) for remote autism assessments four young children under 5.  Additionally, Dr. Weston conducts comprehensive psycho-educational assessments for preschool and school-aged children to help families understand their child’s strengths and learning differences.  They can range from academic, language, phonological, and fine motor weaknesses, as well as attention, memory, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges which may interfere with learning and school performance.  She diagnoses specific learning disorders in reading, math, and written expression, including dyslexia, and provides recommendations to assist with the IEP process as well as direction for obtaining private services.
