Adults with Autism
Coaching for Adults with Autism
Program Details
A Support for Life initiative provides 1:1 coaching to adults (18 years of age and older) with Autism Spectrum and related disorders. Coaches serve as a guide on a client's journey towards attaining their goals. Coaches listen for possibilities and aspirations while elucidating the client's strengths. Coaches ensure accountability, though ultimately, clients are accountable to themselves. Clients must have the drive and motivation necessary to make changes in their own lives for coaching to be successful.
A coach assists clients in creating a plan to achieve goals and aspirations in all facets of their lives. The first step is to create that vision. Following the identification of innate strengths and resources, strategies are developed that aid the client in achieving those goals.
Clients needing treatment, for mental health conditions (e.g. addiction, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, etc.) are not suitable for coaching. Referrals for appropriate services can be made as coaching is neither psychotherapy nor counseling.
