Stress Busters™
Children are often faced with multiple life stressors. Also, many children often become “stuck” on certain worries-often about things they need not worry about! Parents may find themselves spending huge amounts of time reassuring, coaxing and accommodating to minimize their child’s distress-often with minimal success! High levels of stress and anxiety have been shown to affect academics, social abilities, family life, physical and mental health, and adaptive behavior in children of all ages. Often, helping children identify physical manifestations of stress and anxiety and pairing them with effective coping/relaxation strategies such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, and cognitive restructuring are helpful in aiding them with successful coping in a variety of stressful or anxiety provoking situations. In a group setting, children will benefit from learning and practicing skills to reduce stress and anxiety, improve overall performance, and enhance self-esteem and confidence.
