Carol Lockhart, OTR/L
Carol Lockhart, OTR/L is an occupational therapist at the Melmed Center. In treatment, she focuses on neurodevelopmental and sensory-motor approaches utilizing therapeutic exercises and activities.
A child's occupation is play and learning which takes place through successful exploration and interactions with his or her environment. When neurological, neuromuscular, psychological and/or sensory processing interrupts this process, deficits and inability to perform motor and self-care skills may result.
As integral members of the team, occupational therapists provide goal-directed treatment to enhance an individual's functional motor performance through the facilitation of neuromuscular strength and mobility, motor development and sensory processing.
The goals for each child are to create more opportunities for successful, self-gratifying play and exploration, as well as to develop greater independence in self-care and daily living skills.
